1. Think of any words that end in -ical...like identical, ethical, practical, fantatical, historical...and make them Spanish words like this: identico, etico, practico, fanatico, historico.
Otro: think of words that end in -al...like cultural, global, intellectual, ritual, emocional, normal...and make them Spanish like this: cultural, global, intelectual (just drop that extra L), ritual...etc. You get it.
Su practica: think of 10+ words for each category and post them in Spanish in the comment section of this post.
2. Review Presentacion/ Leccion Quinta-the fifth lesson presentation on our blog, listed at the top of the page. Take special note in slide #4.
3. Review, if you have the book Chapter 6-7. If you do not,have the book, you can happily review what we have covered so far to domination and near perfection.
4. Sing your introductory conversation to your favorite nursery rhyme. :)

Maru Buendía-Sentiés, “Making Films on the U.S.-Mexico Border,” 260 Graff Main Hall, 6-7 PM followed by reception. Free hors d’oeuvres.
Maru Buendía-Sentiés, MFA, is a US-Mexico borderlands filmmaker whose work focuses on human rights and immigration. A recipient of the Cary Grant Film Award (2007) of the Princess Grace Foundation, Buendia-Senties was born in Mexico City and raised on the U.S.-Mexico border. Her award-winning films have been featured in film festivals in Europe and the Americas. Her short film “Bienvenido” (2010) portrays the struggle of a Mexican immigrant to overcome stereotypes. Her 2009 award-winning "Entre Líneas" is a story about two friends—Caroline and Ricardo—who live on different sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Their friendship allows the viewer to perceive at the U.S.-Mexico borderlands culture, conflicts between Mexicans and Mexican Americans, and the universal struggle to maintain and find identity in a multicultural society. Buendia’s presentation will discuss her work and screen 2 short films.

Bienvenidos Otoño 2011
Welcome Fall 2011 Class!
I am so psyched to be teaching this class again. Day one is a chance for us to get to know each other, your needs in this class, and learn some Spanish right quick-super rapido. Each of you come with unique experiences in relation to the language and the cultures of Spanish speaking communities. We will have short, and I mean short mini lectures so you can work in pairs to practice dialogues. I will speak in Spanish as much as possible to give you as much understandable input as I can. Remember (?) how you or your children learned their first language? A baby-child listened for a year before starting to speak in understandable words and phrases. We will accelerate this process with you, but not too fast. I will expect you to verbally practice immediately, in class and at home. There is an opportunity for online homework, in class practice and independent study. Every Monday evening will be a great one. Our final exam will be a dinner out with first language Spanish speakers. Bienvenidos todos.
